At ProActive Physical Therapy, we work hand in hand with surgeons to provide the best post operative outcome. Throughout the healing process we follow the surgical protocols, and send the surgeon frequent updates regarding progress. An important part of the rehab process for us is helping the patient’s maintain motivation and a positive outlook because it can be devastating to have to suddenly stop your favorite activities due to an accident.

Commitment to Patient Outcomes and Satisfaction

A big congratulations to all of our therapists at ProActive Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine!  Because of our steadfast commitment to patient outcomes and satisfaction, we have been recognized for our functional improvements that have constantly shown to be above the national average.  In basic terms, our patients are showing far greater improvements than the average physical therapy patient across the United States.

In order to measure these outcomes, we use FOTO Inc., a quality measurement and outcomes management system that provides risk-adjusted benchmark ratings for fair comparison of rehabilitation services for clinicians, clinics, and organizations.  If you would like to experience the ProActive difference, please give us a call to schedule at (760) 444-0102.

TeleHealth/TeleMedicine for Proactive Physical Therapy

All current and past patients,

We are sorry to burden you with another notice. We are pleased to say we have implemented TeleHealth/TeleMedicine into our daily business. Please understand this offering may not be for everyone as it may not fit well with your individual therapy requirements. Your ProActive therapist will help determine if TeleHealth will benefit you.

We implemented this program into our daily business to help anyone who has physical therapy or occupational therapy needs while continuing to follow the shelter-in-place requirements. For patients who want to pay cash for this service we can immediately schedule you. For patients who want to utilize insurance we will need to go through a verification process (similar to when you began therapy) to help you understand the costs.

TeleHealth is new to the physical and occupational therapy world, so we are learning as we go. We are currently up-to-date, and continue to study, which insurances accept and do not accept TeleHeath for physical and occupational therapies.

If you are interested in scheduling a TeleHealth appointment, please call 760-444-0102 and press 1 to get to our scheduling department. Please leave a message if our scheduling department does not answer (our schedulers are very busy during this crisis) and we will return your call promptly.

We continue to hope everyone is safe and healthy!

With much care,

Your ProActive Team

COVID-19

UPDATE: December 8, 2020

Dear Valued Patients,

As we continue to feel the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to share with you the steps we’re taking at ProActive Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine to help protect the health and safety of our patients and employees, which is always our top priority.

We continue to closely monitor local and national reports on the evolving impact of COVID-19. We are basing our guidance on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization and applicable public health agency’s recommendations.

We feel deeply for those who have been affected. Thankfully, as of now, we’re not aware of any employee or patient contracting COVID-19. But we have implemented guidelines that instruct any employee or patient who may develop symptoms or come into contact with infected individuals to stay home and follow the CDC’s instructions.

As an essential healthcare business, we are following guidelines to limit the number of patients in each clinic and requiring the use of face masks for all ProActive staff and patients at all times. Therapists are also required to wear gloves while treating patients.  Limiting the number of patients in our clinics is a priority to keep our patients and our employees safe. We are also doing a healthcare screen and temperature check for each patient and staff member that enters our clinics. If we become aware of any condition in any clinic that would make it unsafe, please rest assured that we’ll close the clinic until those conditions have been addressed.

Our housekeeping and sanitation efforts in our clinics have been greatly expanded past our typical high hygiene standards, which include but are not limited to, wiping down common surfaces and equipment after each use. We’re frequently disinfecting often-touched surfaces such as door handles, countertops, treatment tables, chairs, equipment, computer keypads, faucet handles, and other commonly used items.   We’re asking all of our employees (and we urge everyone) to follow the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the infection.

Again, the health and safety of our patients and employees are our top priority and we’re committed to doing our part to help keep you safe.    Please call any of our clinics if you have any questions or concerns.  If a representative does not answer, please leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we can.

Kindest Regards,

The ProActive Team

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder which causes chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain and presence of at least 11/18 trigger points. Trigger points are sensitive spots in muscles that produce local pain when pressed down on. The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown- although it may have to do with changes to pain processing in the brain and a disturbance of the central nervous system’s response to pain.

Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome

Chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a disorder which causes chronic widespread pain that is at a greater duration or magnitude than normal for a traumatic event. CRPS often develops 4-6 months after an incident such as an injury, stroke, burn, surgery, local infection, or frostbite. The cause of CRPS is not well understood, however it seems to be a multifactorial process involving alterations of nerve and brain functioning.

Shoulder Impingement

Shoulder Impingement

To say that a shoulder joint is “Impinged” is a vague statement. Shoulder pain comes in many forms, but this blanket impingement term IS a way to start a conversation. Most shoulder pain deals with the issue of space, and structures that exist in a limited space. Specifically, bursa (fluid sacs), fibrous capsular tissue, muscles and their tendinous attachments to bone are tightly arranged in a small window that changes size with arm movement. When someone has pain in the shoulder, it’s important to discover which of these structures is limiting motion or making it painful.

Rotator Cuff Muscles-Function

We often refer to the rotator cuff when talking about shoulder injuries. Whether pain is caused by an anatomical spacing issue or due to poor posture/muscle weakness (more on this in the shoulder impingement article), the rotator cuff is addressed in most shoulder diagnoses. So what does this term mean exactly?
