At ProActive Physical Therapy, we work hand in hand with surgeons to provide the best post operative outcome. Throughout the healing process we follow the surgical protocols, and send the surgeon frequent updates regarding progress. An important part of the rehab process for us is helping the patient’s maintain motivation and a positive outlook because it can be devastating to have to suddenly stop your favorite activities due to an accident.
Working within the protocol, we begin by using a variety of manual techniques to reduce edema, improve soft tissue extensibility, scar tissue management, and restore range of motion. When allowed, we will start strengthening and weight-bearing activities. We work closely with our patients to help progressively restore normal gait patterns and regain strength. This will help our patients return to normal daily activities.
But we don’t stop there. We know our patients have a variety of high-level skills and activities they are passionate about. With communication from the surgeon, we progress when able from static strengthening to dynamic weight-bearing strengthening, balance, and proprioception activities progressing to sport-specific activities. The smile on our patient’s face the first time they run, throw, or kick is so rewarding. It is our passion to help you get back to yours!
